International Students (Grades 7–12)

AQIS welcomes international students into Grades 7–12 in Calgary, Alberta. Our admissions process is designed to be clear, supportive, and step-by-step, so parents always know what comes next.

Who Can Apply (Eligibility)

International applicants should meet the following:

Step-by-Step Admissions Process

Step 1: Submit Your Online Application
Complete the online application and upload the required documents (listed below). Once received, our Admissions Office will begin the review.

Step 2: Pay the Application Fee
• Application Fee:$250 CAD (non-refundable)

Step 3: Application Review & Assessment 
We review each application for:

  • Academic progression and readiness
  • Grade equivalency
  • Student’s interview with the principal
  • Age eligibility
  • English proficiency (if required)

If additional documentation or an assessment/interview is needed, we will contact you with next steps.

Step 4: Receive an Offer of Admission
Parents receive an admissions decision. Some offers may be conditional until remaining requirements are completed (for example, missing documents or assessment requirements).

Step 5: Confirm Enrollment & Tuition Payment
Once tuition is paid, the student’s enrollment status is updated to Confirmed.

Step 6: Receive Your Letter of Acceptance (LOA)
After all conditions are fulfilled, AQIS issues the Letter of Acceptance (LOA) required to apply for a Canadian Study Permit.

Step 7: Arrange Custodianship & Homestay (For Students Under 18)
Students under 18 must have a legal custodian in Canada for the duration of their studies. AQIS supports parents through our partnered homestay provider (details below).

Step 8: Apply for the Study Permit (Parent Responsibility)
Parents apply directly to IRCC (Government of Canada). AQIS can provide guidance, but we do not submit the application on the student’s behalf.

Step 9: Pre-Arrival Preparation & Arrival Check-In
Before arrival, students receive:

  • Orientation package
  • Academic calendar
  • Arrival instructions
  • Enrollment and travel confirmation guidance

Upon arrival, students must present:

  • Passport
  • Study Permit
  • Custodianship documents (if under 18)

AQIS verifies identity and completes final registration.

Homestay & Custodianship (Students Under 18)

Custodianship Requirement

International students under 18 are generally required to have a legal custodian residing in Canada for the duration of their studies, in accordance with immigration and applicable provincial requirements.


Homestay Partner: Canada Homestay Network (CHN)

To support accommodation and custodianship arrangements, AQIS works with Canada Homestay Network (CHN), an established homestay provider serving international students across Canada.

English Language Requirements

Students must demonstrate enough English proficiency to participate successfully in classes. English may be assessed through:

Health Insurance (Required)

International students must maintain valid health insurance for the full duration of studies in Alberta. If you are arranging a student’s stay in Calgary through Canada Homestay Network (CHN), you can also request medical insurance through CHN, which can be added to the overall homestay cost.

Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP)

Private Health Insurance

Students who are not eligible for AHCIP must purchase private insurance. Parents may also choose extra private coverage for services not included under AHCIP.
