How do I apply?

You can apply by completing the online application form on our website and uploading the required documents. Once we receive your application, our Admissions Team will review it and may request an interview and/or an English proficiency assessment.

How much does it cost to apply?

The application fee is $250 CAD and is non-refundable. This fee covers administrative processing of the application.

When should I apply?

We encourage families to apply as early as possible, especially international students who require a Study Permit. Applications are accepted year-round, subject to seat availability.

What documents are required to apply?

Most applicants are asked to submit:

  • Copy of the student’s passport
  • Academic transcripts/report cards from the last two years (English translation if required)
  • Proof of English proficiency (if applicable)
  • Any additional documents requested during review (e.g., interview/assessment)

International students may also need:

  • Custodianship documents (for students under 18)
  • A valid Study Permit prior to starting school in Canada

How much is tuition?

Annual tuition is $15,500 CAD per academic year. Tuition and fees may change each academic year—please contact the Admissions Office for the latest information.

What are the payment terms?

Payment terms are outlined in the enrollment agreement. In general:

  • Tuition is paid annually
  • A deposit may be required to secure enrollment after acceptance
  • Additional costs may include items such as supplies, activities, health insurance, and (if applicable) homestay/custodianship fees

When does registration begin for new students?

Registration typically begins several months before each academic term. Early registration is recommended to secure placement.

What grades does AQIS offer?

AQIS offers Grades 7–12.

What curriculum does AQIS teach?

AQIS delivers a Canadian curriculum aligned with provincial education standards, preparing students for graduation and future pathways to Canadian and international universities.

Is English proficiency required?

Students must demonstrate sufficient English proficiency to participate successfully in classes. This may be assessed through:

  • An AQIS internal assessment, and/or
  • A recognized English test (e.g., IELTS, TOEFL, or equivalent), if required

Will there be an interview?

An admissions interview may be required, depending on the applicant’s profile and grade level, to support placement decisions and assess readiness.

International Students: Study Permit, Homestay & Custodianship

Does AQIS help with the Study Permit process?

AQIS provides guidance and issues the Letter of Acceptance (LOA) once enrollment conditions are met. However, families must submit the Study Permit application directly to IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada).

What is a Letter of Acceptance (LOA), and when do I receive it?

The LOA is an official document required for the Study Permit application. AQIS issues the LOA after:

  • All admissions requirements are met, and
  • Enrollment is confirmed according to the school’s process (including tuition payment and fulfillment of any conditions)

Do students under 18 need a custodian in Canada?

Yes. International students under 18 typically require a legal custodian residing in Canada for the duration of their studies.

Does AQIS offer homestay or on-campus housing?

AQIS does not offer on-campus housing. For students who need accommodation, AQIS supports approved homestay arrangements through Canada Homestay Network (CHN), which can also assist with custodianship documentation (if required).

Who pays homestay and custodianship fees?

Homestay and custodianship fees are separate from AQIS tuition and are paid directly to Canada Homestay Network (CHN) by the students.

How long does homestay placement take?

CHN typically matches students with suitable host families within 1–4 weeks, after receiving required documentation and payment.

Student Life & Support

Do you offer school bus service?

Yes. School bus service is available within Calgary for an additional fee of $350 CAD.

How can parents communicate with teachers?

Parents can connect with teachers through:

  • Scheduled parent-teacher conferences
  • Email communication
  • Meetings arranged through the school

How often does AQIS update parents on progress?

Parents are welcome to contact the school anytime regarding academic or wellbeing concerns. AQIS also shares progress through:

  • Report cards/progress reports
  • School communications and updates
  • Parent meetings and school channels (as applicable)

How does the school communicate with families?

AQIS communicates regularly through:

  • Report cards and progress updates
  • Newsletters and announcements
  • Parent-teacher meetings
  • Email and other school communication tools

Health & Safety

Do students need health insurance?

Yes. International students must maintain valid health insurance coverage for the full duration of studies in Alberta. Eligibility for AHCIP (Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan) may apply in some cases; otherwise, private insurance is required. Details will be shared during the admissions process.

Is there medical support available at school?

AQIS provides basic first aid and trained staff on campus. For medical concerns beyond first aid, students are referred to appropriate local medical facilities or hospitals

Policies, Refunds & Placement

What is the placement policy?

Placement is based on:

  • Availability in the requested grade level
  • Age-appropriate placement
  • Academic readiness

What is the refund policy if a student withdraws or a visa is refused?

Refunds depend on the school’s refund policy and factors such as:

  • Timing of withdrawal
  • Visa/study permit approval or refusal status
    Please note: certain fees (including the application fee) are non-refundable. Full details are provided in the enrollment contract.

Can I submit transcripts in a language other than English?

Yes, but transcripts/report cards may need to be translated into English if required for review.

Are offers ever conditional?

Yes. An offer may be conditional if additional documents, assessments, or other requirements must be completed before final confirmation.

What should we do after acceptance?

After acceptance, families typically:

  1. Confirm enrollment and complete required payments
  2. Receive the LOA (once conditions are met)
  3. Apply for the Study Permit through IRCC
  4. Arrange custodianship/homestay (if applicable)
  5. Prepare for arrival and complete registration check-in
